Line or not to Line

stjamesb | Posted in General Sewing Info on

Hi all,

I am making full length drapery with soft pleats.  There will be 2 layers of fabrics, the top is print sheer, the bottom layer is linen-like (with slubs).  This linen-like fabric is very drapey.  The sheer and the linen-like layers are only attached at the top (soft pleat together).  My question is should I line the linen-like layer?  Those windows get very strong afternoon sun, so I want to protect the fabric a litte bit.  But adding the lining, would it stiff the linen-like fabric too much?  I was thinking about using the softest drapery lining that I could find.

Any comments would be much appreciated.

Thanks

why not make a seperate backing out of a blockout fabric and attach it at the top with the hook. That way the linen will hang frr and you will get more athan a couple of years wear out of them.
