Lining for silk chiffon?

georgegabriellecouture | Posted in General Sewing Info on

Hi ladies,

what type of lining do you use for silk chiffon? I have an evening dress order, and I will work with silk chiffon. Anymore tips on working with silk chiffon? I read Sandra Betzina’s book on fabric, but I can always use more tips. Oh yeah, and it seems that 1 layer of silk chiffon is kinda skimpy, do you usually double the layer?

Thanks 🙂

Ning

The couture gowns I've seen in silk chiffon tend to have a doubled skirt or a skirt lined in a nude or plain silk chiffon, and the bodice is lined in silk satin or (charmeuse?can't remember that term!).

Nothing but silk chiffon moves as it does, so I'd hate to use anything else, if I could afford to sew with it in the first place.

Thanks for the tips. My client's budget does't allow me to double the chiffon :(, so I decided to try to use china silk in the same color, and use the silk charmeuse for the midriff. I'm still waiting for the fabric to arrive, I will post updates as soon as I finish the dress.

      Best,

      Ning
