Hi All:
I am making a costume for my son-in-law. He is going to be a cowboy this year for Halloween. I have been looking on line for places to purchase inexpensive black leather fringe. Had not had much luck, but wondered if any of you were aware of an on line shop specializing in trims.

You can easily make your own "leather" fringe by using black Ultrasuede. It would be much more practical than "real" leather, and you would only have to buy a few inches; then simply cut into narrow fringe (whatever width you wanted) by the yard.
There is a very simple tool that you can use to do this too, which will make the fringe perfectly even. It is called a: Quarter Cut by June Tailor. I have one and have used it for making fringe many times. The only caveat is that you use fabric that doesn't fray, i.e. leather, suede, Ultrasuede, Ultra-leather or fleece. I'm sure there are other fabrics you could use as well, but these are the ones that I have used so far.
Check out eBay too, for the material you want to use for the fringe. If you can't find it on eBay, there are a number of sources on line. You could also use a "knock-off" Ultrasuede, so you don't have to pay for the brand name. After all, it's just a costume and not something that will be worn regularly all year.
If the trim doesn't need to look like authentic leather, have you thought of using black fleece? It fringes beautifully and will cost very little.
