I am designing a swing coat. I would like to make it with a quality wool/blend fabric, coat weight. I am looking for cashmere, alpaca/wool blend, camel wool blend. Something of that nature. Because it is a swing coat I would like to make it in a lively color rather than a natural color, something like orange/melon, tangerine, rust, gold/brown, or green tones such as sage, forest, olive. I am having difficulty finding retail outlets that stock these fabrics, colors. I live in Canada and if possible would like to find a local supplier.
Can you help me?

How local? Where do you live? Depending on your location, I can give you several options.....
Emmaonesock (not Canadian) has a beautiful coat-weight mohair on sale in burgundy and teal, I think.. Check it out.

Banksville Fabrics always has alpaca and cashmere blends. They have a website, but you really need to call them and they will send samples. Also, Paron in NYC canbe called and they will send samples. Try http://www.Manhattanfabrics.com I think that this is connected to Paron. I bought some gorgeous alpacca from Mood a couple of years ago and made a great coat, they have a website, but their response has been uneven. Even calling them for samples lately has been unsuccessful. I had bought the fabric in person in NYC. My best luck with samples has been with Paron and with Banksville. Banksville you have to join for the first 30 sample, $10 i think, but after you buy they will send you samples for free. I hadn't bought from them in several years but they did not charge me for recent samples. They had an amazing selection of stretch silk charmeuse when no one had any. Good prices. B and J in NYC will send samples and they should have what you are looking for but they are expensive.

Rosemarie,
The Wool House in Toronto has amazing fabrics. They now have a mail-order service (http://www.myfinefabrics.com), where you can order swatches in colors and fibers that interest you. I purchased some incredible wools from them at the American Sewing Expo in Novi, but not nearly as much as I'd have liked.
