looking for fabric for prom dress

*
Hello,
I am making my daughters prom dress, but am having trouble finding fancy materials. I have been everywhere local(in and around St. Louts area)and most places have a small selection. Have tried some on-line places, but most of the selection is small. Any ideas?
Thanks
Wanda

Is there an Indian (as in from India) community in St. Louis? If you can find some place that has fabric for Sari they may have what you want. There are several of these in Houston, all grouped together near a discount/wholesale shopping area. They have some fabrics, etc. you don't find in Joannes or Hancock! I also found a couple of real out of the way places that had stuff by looking in the phone book, but I would assume you've tried that.
*Interesting idea! I'll give it a try!
*I found this site too late for this year, but maybe file it for future reference? Not to sound incredulous, but it's hard to believe there's not a specialty fabric store in St. Louis. Contact interior designers. It's not exactly their field, but rich and filmy fabrics are very "in" for pillows and curtains right now, and they'll have contacts. You can also see if the yellow pages have any listings for custom dressmakers you can get references from. High-dollar women's stores' alterations depts. are also a good source. Hope the dress turned out great!
*The dress turned out wonderful! I ended up getting an ice blue satin. Then I decorative stitched the bodice and beaded it myself. She loved it! Thanks for asking!
*Just a note on sari fabric... I am currently making a bridal outfit for someone from sari fabric, went to my city's Indian neighborhood to research... apparently they generally sell the silk only in what they call "sari lengths," I think it is 4 1/2 yards. They can be fairly pricey, the ones I saw ranged from $400 to $1000 or more. But the colors were TO DIE FOR, completely scrumptious!!!
