looking for fabric stores in NYC

knew | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

I have been sewing for almost 50 years.
I’m taking a trip to New York City at the end of the month. I know there are wonderful fabrics there. It has been 30 years since I was there last. A few years ago I saw a map to the fabric stores in NYC.
I gave it away to a friend who was going there. I would appreciate any help.
Thanks Knew

See the attached list that I got from somewhere some time ago.  I think I may have enhanced it but can't be sure.  If you have any questions just set them out here or email me directly.  Hope it helps.  Z

Thank you!! I liked the intro. Just like a New Yorker.
The intro about each store will be helpful!!

I live in NYC and if you've got the time (and the energy) I'd begin on Seventh Avenue and about 37th Street and walk west on 37th Street to Eighth Avenue then walk to 38th Street and walk east down 38th Street back to Seventh Avenue and continue to 40th Street.  There are fabric (and notion) shops on both sides of the streets and some of the smaller shops (my favorites are on 39th Street) carry unusual and lower priced fabrics.

I'm lucky my husband says he will fabric shop 1 day with me! And my niece works in the garment district.
Thank you for your wonderful suggestion!

I am back and have lots of fabric and trim. I loved your attachment!!
Some stores have moved to make room for the new Times Blg. on 40th St. Some have changed their names but I found most all I was looking for in your list!! Thanks for the tip on not getting the bolt out!!!! And I was able to get a decent price not the one marked on the bolt!!
Thank You very much!! Next time I will take a cart or something to cark fabric in so my husband won't have to carry it all day.
      Thanks
      K
