Looking for good handbag patterns

creatingbeauty | Posted in Patterns on

Hi! I’m trying to find either a good book or good patterns for sewing handbags, those big leather bags that you see on the runway. Anybody have any ideas?

Good pattern? it depends on what you want or need.

I make my own patterns for bags & totes.

Decide how big (or small) you want it and cut out squares or rectangles to give the finished size; practice on cheaper materials.

What I need to know is how how to add the pockets (inside and out) and all the other things that go on purses like straps and stuff.

Have a look at the website from my favourite handbag pattern designer - Nicole Mallalieu.  She is an Australian designer and her patterns explain everything - from what topstitiching is to how to insert a zipper into a curved facing.  - wwwnicolemdesign.com.au.

I do not sew bags ( just the simple Library bag for school), but if I did, these are my top three websites.

Have you seen the new Clover Handbag Templates?  If not go to Cover.Com or I prefer Nancy's Notions.  Nancy's's recent catalog has the templates, rings, straps and everything for sale.  On Clover Needlecraft where I got an email from they had Nancy demonstrate how to make the bags from a video demo.  It looked super fast.  Just a thought!  I am thinking about buying them and making gifts for Christmas.  There are two styles of templates City Bags and Town and Country Bags and different ways you can make each purse different.

I bought a used pattern to make just plain bags (shoulder bags) to take back and forth to the grocery store.  I go to a cheap discount place and buy many items that are not name-brand.  You have to unload the cart and sack everything in your own sacks.  I am tired of taking plastic bags there from other stores such as Target.  Just my two cents.

Have you seen StudioKat.com???  She is an original designer and shows her patterns made up in many different ways,,They turn out great, but I would not suggest them for a Rank Beginner
