Looking for pattern drafting tools

olivetree62 | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

Looking for pattern drafting tools such as Hip curve, French curves and an L square. Either a brick and mortar store in the Pasadena, California area or online. Thank you.

The items you mention should be available at any decent-sized fabric store. Phone around to find one who does carry such things.

Thank you for taking your time to answer. However, in my area the only large and well stocked fabric store is a JoAnn's. They do not carry any of the items I am looking for.

Thank goodness I don't have to rely on JoAnns! We don't have JoAnn in Canada and our pickings here have become increasingly slim as well. Is there a store in your area that caters to artists? It may be worthwhile to see what they carry. A lot of art supply stores have craft items - french curves are not only used by sewers.

Vogue Fabrics is another reliable online site that carries these tools.

Thank you very much for your reply. I checked out Vogue Fabrics online store and see that they have a pattern making kit with all the tools in one package. Thanks for helping me find what I was looking for.

Oooh - as you say that I'm thinking what a terrific stocking stuffer a drafting kit would be. Maybe a bit big and lavish for a stocking - maybe as a stand-alone gift. If only I had someone to give one too!

Oh, NO! I'm already in holiday mode - yikes, and it's not even Labor Day!

You are so welcome. This site is very safe and reliable according to other sewing friends. Actually I have purchased top quality muslin from them several years ago.

    B. Black & Sons in Los Angeles is brick and mortar store and also can be found online.  I've ordered from them several times.

Thank you for your very helpful information. I did go online and took a look at the B. Black and Sons website. They do have everything I am looking for. Thanks again.

We have several Hancock & Joann's in my metro area, however, non have these items - which really surprised me.  I did, however, find the hip curve at Hobby Lobby in the art section and the large french curve in a local university book store.  This university happens to teach fashion design and patternmaking.  Note: there is a size difference in a french curve for patternmaking and a french curve for art.
