Looking for Sewing Magazine

mizliz | Posted in General Discussion on

Does anyone know where, in Boston MA area, I can get the Austrailian sewing magazine”Stitches.” I used to buy it in the Fabric Place Stores in Massachusetts but …. alas.. they are going out of business. I enjoyed many of the articles and tips in that magazine. Maybe someone knows of another similar magazines that inspire. Burda is good but also hard to get unless you subscribe and some of their designs are way out there for the more classic looking sewer type (I think this might be age related, alas again). I hate to pay the subscription fee and waste it on some of the issues.

Thanks, in advance.  MizLiz

I lament with you on the closing of Fabric Place.  Spent many deilgithful times shopping them with my daughter.

Suggestion - have you looked carfefully through the beginning pages of the Stitches magazine you have?  Perhaps the American distributor is listed and you can go that route to locate a retail source.

Thanks so much for your reply but ,by accident, past issues were deleted (aka to the dump/transfer station !!).

Hi, It is a bit of a drive from Boston (under 1 hour) but I have seen Stitches magazine at Apple Annie Fabrics, 566 Wilbur ave, Swansea MA, call to ask 866-675-9844, The shop is small but has absolutely beautiful fabric, imported linens and wools from Italy and everywhere else that you can't find at chain fabric stores. Hope this helps.

Thanks to you as well. I will try Apple Annie's. I have found SawyerBrook Fabric in Clinton MA and it is great. The ladies are so helpful, lots of fun, very patient and the fabric and buttons are just gorgeous. They have a great website as well. There forums are really helpful. I cannot say enough kind things about them. It is like visiting sewing friends.

I guess we all survive losing old favorites and in the process find new and, in this case, better ones.

        Hi,
I used to buy "Australian Stitches" from http://www.ericas.com They are currently selling the individual issues for $9.95. When you look at the individual issues you can also see the article titles in each issue. Now I am subscribing which is expensive but I do know that I will get each issue. Let me know if you want to know how to subscribe.

Thanks to all. I have e-mailed Erica's and was delighted. Now I have at least two  sources and Apple Annies . Again, thanks to all who responded.

I have been able to find "Stitches" at Joann's Fabrics in several parts of the country including Atlanta, Los Angeles and Denver. That might be a good place to start.

Thanks very much. JoAnn's in my area does not carry it. Apple Annies in Swansea Ma and Erica's( out of state for me) both do carry it. So at least I can order without getting a full subscription. I appreciate your response.

      Thanks

I have seen them in Nashua, right over the border on Route 3, at Nashua Sew and Vac.

Thanks Sewista. I go there  with My Viking machine and Eddie and Ruthie and their entire staff are just great. I will look on my next trip.

I like Stitches also. I do purchase mine at my local Joann's but I have also seen it at one of my dealers. I believe it was my Pfaff/Viking dealer or possibly the local Bernina/Babylock dealer. I suggest to call the sewing machine dealers in your area including some book stores.
