I have inherited a Singer Touch & Sew Deluxe Zig-Zag Model 628. The bobbin latch seems very loose and I’m not getting a “snap” when I flip it down. As a result, the bobbin jumps up after a few stitches and my threads tangle in the bobbin case. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? The latch itself doesn’t appear to be broken or missing a part … Thank you!

Without the bobbin in the case, take a look at how the latch works and make sure there's not a bit of thread or lint preventing it from latching. Then put a drop of oil on it and see if that solves the problem.Annie
This happens on my machine when the bobbin chase/race(housing?) is clogged with dust and oil; the "snap" won't latch because the bobbin doesn't seat all the way onto the spindle.
After taking out the bobbin case, take apart the area it sits into and clean it with a small brush or cotton swab. Clean each machine element in the whole area and vacuum or blow out the accumulated lint. Replace everything, and you should get that snap back.
