Machine suggestions

kbaker5956 | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

I’m a beginner and I’m looking for suggestions on a used machine that I can use for sewing drapery and upholestry fabrics for home use. My budget is limited but I want something that will last.

There are lots of good models around, but I would suggest that whatever you choose, you buy a used machine from a dealer.  It will have been serviced (usually about $70 in Alberta, Canada), and it may have some sort of warranty.  I've heard horror stories about people wanting a good deal and buying machines from a warehouse sale - I really wouldn't recommend it.  Good luck with your hunting, and remember to change the needles on your serger often, especially if you're working with upholstory fabric.  I've had lots of runs in fabric because I forgot to change the needle.  Happy serging!
