– Mail Order Fabric Clubs

Reina | Posted in General Discussion on

Years ago I belonged to a fabric club that would mail out small samples that you pasted on to a sheet they provided. There was a small fee and the fabrics were quite nice. I don’t remember the name of the club. Does anyone have any suggestions or perhaps know of a fabric club. Thank you.

Could it have been Fashion Fabrics Club in St. Louis, MO?  I use to get a packet from them about every month of swatches.  They had a lot of overflow from designer clothing such as slacks and tops made by companies such as Liz Claiborne and other companies.  They also had knits of all sorts. home decor fabric, and lots of stuff.  They have a huge warehouse in St. Louis, MO.   I have talked to people that live in St. Louis and actually walk through it.  I haven't made it there as I live 6-8 hours from St. Louie.  I am way down by Joplin south of Springfield, MO.  They have a website, and I use to look online at fabric, but that was before DSL.  I am sure it would be easier now with the high speed connection.  What I liked about it was they had coordinates in that fabric for a top that matched the bottom just like the department store.  Much of their material was overstocks from department stores that was unused and sold to them.  It made it easy for me to match, which is a weak area of mine in material selection.  I hope I am thinking of the right place for you.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my request. Yes, it was the Fashion Fabrics Club. I contacted them and they ended that service the end of 2007. I was so disappointed. Now you can order the fabric on the internet and have to pay for any samples.

        Dear Regina,

You know I can't think of anyone that gives free swatches anymore.  Isn't it awful!  A couple of places that I have had also good luck with ordering from is Fashion.Com.  They have great sales and some fabric is reorderable.  You can return fabric if you don't like it.  I have ordered fabric as far as T-shirt fabric from SpandexHouse.com.  They have nice cotton with 10 percent spandex for wonderful t-shirts and lots of colors.  I will tell you most of all the other places are just way too high for me.  I know these places will send you a swatches, but I think they cost.  I have ordered from both and never been disappointed or sent anything back.  HTH
