My husband is now into thin and creative ties. He recently asked me to use some of his regular ties and create some thin ties from them. Does anyone have any ideas on ways to do this AND have them look nice? I plan to try it next week, so, any ideas would be helpful. Thanks!

I would take the tie completely apart and cut down the interfacing to the size you want. Carefully press out the old folds - being really careful not to stretch the bias cut fabric. Then you will need to cut some of the excess fabric off the sides and sew it back together - by hand.
I've made a couple of "piecework" ties, and that sounds like what I would try first, Sue. Maybe leaving the center foot or so ( where it's already skinny) intact so that the pieces don't get shifted out of place. Also. be sure to maintain the center points, so that the bias doesn't get shifted.
Happy 'new' ties, Tanya! K
Here's the tutorial by David Hober at the AskAndyAboutClothes.com site: http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/Tutorials/HOBERHowToMakeANECKTIE.htm It's what I started with.
Oh, and find something to insert up the center (card stock, template material) to help keep your stitches from peeking through the front as you handstitch. That was probably the part I had the most problems with!
