Making my own braid

mem | Posted in General Sewing Info on

I am wondering whether anyone here has ever made their own braid for a jacket trim?  have read about Chanels braids in Claire Schaffers book and I guess I am wondering if anyone has any experience or tips they could pass on to me .

I have made my own braid. It was for a heavy cotton lace dress. I can see the braid but not the garment- it was a while ago. Anyway, the thing that helped me the most was a little tool called a "bird." it clamps onto a table or other edged surface and has a rubber lined small clamp that holds the three strands (knot them together at the top). Then you braid! It couldn't be simpler or more satisfying. In fact, I think I want to make some more braid myself, just have to come up with a project! I'm sure you can have a great time picking out the materials you want to use. Happy sewing! - Janet

you might want to learn how to do kumihimo braiding.  You can make flat braids to natch or tone with your jacket fabric
