Marfy Patterns – How to Buy?

kbalinski | Posted in Patterns on

In the March edition of Threads, a pattern review was done on Marfy 9090, a beautiful skirt.  I’ve visited the Marfy website, but this pattern is not shown.  So, how can I buy this pattern?

And for anyone whose familiar with Marfy, what advice do you have to offer a first-time user?  I am an experienced sewer, but with standard patterns (McCalls, Simplicity, Vogue, Butterick).

Many thanks,

Kristine

Try going to the Vogue patterns website - Vogue is now offering Marfy patterns.  I had to email with a question on them once and they were good about getting back, so if you don't find it there maybe they can help you directly. You can also order their entire catalog from the site.

I've used Marfy several times; here's what I'd suggest:

    1.  Be sure to keep a copy of your pattern photo from the catalog, because the pattern will come with no illustrations.  There will also be no construction information, no seam allowances, and no hem allowances.

    2.  Your pattern will come pretrimmed to one size.  No multisizing here!  So, you'll want to make a muslin test-garment, and alter to fit you. This muslin will also give you an idea of how the pattern fits together.

    3.  A good sewing manual, with basic construction information, will be of value unless you put things together intuitively (as I do).

    4.  If you plan to make the garment more than once, take notes, make digital photos along the way, or somehow document what you've done.  This will help you the second or third time around.

Marfy patterns are a challenge...but oh, the cut and fit and style are worth it!  There is no equal, IMO.

The skirt pattern Marfy is not shown on their site but you might be able to order it from Marfy.I would send Marfy an email asking them if it is still available.  Last winter, I wanted to order patterns from previous books and they answered me that they keep patterns from their previous issues 2 years back.  the skirt 9090 was in the summer 2004 issue.

      good luck

Thanks so much for your advice and detailed response.  Summer 2004, huh?  Wonder why it was included in a pattern review for the March 2006 issue!  How frustrating to track down, but I will contact Marfy.

I'm nervous about tackling this challenge, but I loved this skirt from the moment I laid eyes on it, but am confident in my ability and ready to take on the challenge.

        Keep your fingers crossed...

        Kristine
