I want to put the name and date on the slip of a dress I made for my grandbaby. The material is Swiss batist. Would machine embroidery look too hard on this thin material? Thanks, Wanda

Why not embroider a small silk tag and then stitch the tag to the slip instead?
It is very common to do this on the slip. I am not into machine embroidery, so can't share my knowledge but I do a lot of smocking and subscribe to magazines that feature these types of garments. You may want to check out the Sew Beautiful website and forum and/or the Australian Smocking and Embroidery magazine site. The AS&E site can be reached by googling Countrybumpkin.au and the SB magazine can be found by googling Sew Beautiful or Martha Pullen.
Often Christening gowns are featured in these magazines and they have machine or hand embroidered slips. I would think the stabilizer and type of thread would be critical on such a fine fabric. Good luck. I love these types of garments.
