Natural fiber shops in the Chicago area

Pegybell | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

Hello,

This is a first posting for me so I should introduce myself.  My name is Peggy and I live in the midwest.  If our family lived where a caste system was in place, we would be tailors.  We all sew, it is a family rite of passage.

I’ve started exploring Chicago and would like advice about where to shop for really nice natural fiber fabric.

Thanks in advance,

Peg

Fishmans is wonderful and there's a Vogue right around the corner plus there's a great deli just up the block. http://www.fishmansfabrics.com/

Although this may be late but guess better late then never.  As I live in the suburbs of Chicago and used to work there I hope that you live in the are and can still utilize some of the information that I have regarding the 'burbs.  There is a great fabric store in Barrington called Fabrics by Finn.  They have some really incredible pieces.  It is however on the small size but the greatest finds usually are.  Also there are lots of great "quilt" shops I say that in quotes because before we all used to cut up those cottons for quilts we used them for shirts skirts and pants.  If you are into those kind of natural fiber shops then there is another in Barrington within walking distance of Finns place but the name escapes me right now.  But has Amish in the name.  There are also lots of other little places to explore just go to the yellow pages on line and type in variations of what you are looking for and will find tons.

      Terry,

I agree with better late than never.  I will always want to know where to shop for fabric!  Thanks for the info about Finns.

      Regards,

      Peggy
