Need help taking personal measurement…

D00gw00d | Posted in Patterns on

Please help. I have no sewing friends or family to help me take accurate measurements for either
selecting patterns or altering them. I buy very inexpensive material and a pattern and start making sample garments, then attempt to fit to myself. This is becoming very frustrating an not at all satisfying. I am working with a more “mature” figure than I did 20+ years ago when I made all my clothes. Any suggestions?

If you go to a fabric store and ask I'm sure someone there will be happy to measure you, especially if you buy fabric or pattern there.

*Ask a dressmaker if she/he would take complete measurements for you. There might be a fee but you would get very accurate measurements for you alterations.Chris.

*If you are able to attend a fitting class at something like The Sewing Place near San Jose, or The Sewing Workshop in San Francisco, it will save you much time and endless frustration. If sewing classes are offered through Adult Education in your area, you can get a great deal of help this way. There is nothing like an extra pair of hands and eyes to solve fitting problems.
