There is a company (mail order) called "Jeffers", a pet supply, that has dog coats for $9 -- already made. With an outer fabric of nylon (waterproof) and the inside of polar fleece, edges bound in nylon, with a ribbed neck and velcro fastenings. A friend of mine just got one and I altered it a bit for her to fit her dog, and we agreed you could hardly buy the fabric for that price. She thinks it has a web site. You might check it out and even buy one to make a pattern from it if you need more than one.
