Hi, I am purchasing a new machine after 35 years of using a Sears Kenmore. You know the one with the Design cams? It has been a wonderful machine, Sears has always been able to provide parts and it is a machine that can sew anything, but servicing is no longer worth it. I would welcome comments from readers as to what they have found to be a good machine. I am planning on buying a serger at the same time.

There are lots of comments in 'old' discussions. Use the ADVANCED SEARCH and look for the brand you are interested in researching.
Hope this helps,
Becky
Hi, Everyone here has their favorites. You can check out Pattern Review also, they do members do reviews of sewing machines as well as patterns, and other things. Before you do that, you should go to the manufacturer's website and make a list of features that you might like to have, which ones are must have, like to have, and won't use list. Then start narrowing your list down after you find reviews of each one. If you live close to a dealer, I would go there with a pile of fabric and try sewing on whatever machines they have there to use. Buying a new sewing machine is a personal experience, I never realized how much until I bought m new one in 2002. I would get the best one i could afford with the most features you want. Mainly because they are always adding new functions and features, so look for one that is upgradable. Then of course there is cost and that always make you see reality. Good luck, jane
