Hi everyone:
My name is Margaret. I have just joined the group this morning. I live in PEI Canada, and I also am a fabricaholic. I have been sewing since I was 6, started with embroidery, progressed to sewing practically all my clothes , along with those of my daughter. About 15 years ago — when the quilting bug caught me, I got hooked, and garments were put aside for the time being. I am now retired from going out to work for pay everyday ( you know the kind I mean ) and I have been getting back into garment sewing — with thanks to Timmels Fabrics ( Halifax ) weekly newsletter and online fabrics, and also attented a full sewing/fitting week with Sandra Betzina, I am now on my way to burning up the sewing machine. I have lots of quilting buddies, unfortunately that is not the same when it comes to garments, so I am delighted to be part of this group

Welcome to the forum! I would love to learn fitting from Sandr Betzina! Wow! That must have been inspirational! Glad to have you on board, look forward to chatting. Mary
Hi Mary
thank you for your kind welcome, I am new to message boards so I wasn't too sure if I had posted correctly?? Perhaps someone could give me hints ??? Yes Sanda Betzina was a once in a lifetime sewing week for me. she was sponsored by Timmels Fabrics of Halifax NS and I registered as soon as it was posted. It was a dream week --- in the class there were 11 students with the common interest in sewing. We arrived with our patterns, muslin, cheap fabrics, sewing machines -- and for a whole week we made fittings and mock-ups. Sandra personally took our measurements and advised where we should be looking at alterations and we went from there. I was able to work on 7 different items. Hopefully I will be getting all these garments sewn up before too long. thank you again Mary and I'm looking forward to meeting lots of sewers on this site

Welcome, Margaret! Glad to have you here. A week with Sandra Betzina - Wow! That sounds like a sewist's fantasy for sure! I can see why you are ready to let that machine whirr away. Hope to see you posting often.solo
Hello Solo:
many thanks for your message
yes a week with Sandra Betzina was a sewers dream ---- she is such a faboulous person, I would do it all over again if I had the chance . It was very motivating -- since then I am not so timid in altering patterns to fit myself -- actually I have now become a fan of doing muslins, that way I know that garments will fit before cutting into the good fabric.
Happy sewing and have a great day
Margaret
Hi,
I am new to the boards. How did you get a week with Sandra Betzina? I am looking for something just like that to get me motivated and re-learn how to sew for myself again. Major fitting problems, very tall, etc.
I'd love to hear more about it.
Thanks.
To find out about Sandra Betzina's workshops and classes you can Google her name and information on her will come up. At the top of her page you should see some choices such as patterns, books, and workshops. Click your mouse on her "workshops" or classes and you will see her schedule. She does teach out of San Francisco as well as on the road.
Hope this helps.
Hi 2tallct:
So nice to hear from you ---- yes a week sewing with Sandra Betzina was in my opinion a dream come true . I live in Atlantic Canada , and she just happened to be coming to Halifax, Nova Scotia courtesy of Julie Culshaw of http://WWW.Timmelfabrics.com --- so I treated myself and took the oportunity. I'm not sure where you live ------ however she travels and teaches at various cities accross the USA and some in Canada too ---- and she helps out at a training school somewhere in Africa ( she's a busy womam ) if you look up on her website http://www.sandrabetzinaonline.com you can access her teaching/travelling schedule , she also teaches at home in San Francisco on a regular basis. I also have purchased some of her books , my favourite is "Fast Fit" ( easy pattern alterations for every figure ). Since my week with Sandra I always make up a muslin if I am using a pattern for the first time -- that way I know it will fit when I cut into the good fabric, it takes a wee bit longer, but the end results far outweight that extra little bit of time involved.
Hope some of this info is useful to you and let me know how you make out.
Have a great day and happy sewing

Hello Cherrypops:
So nice to hear from you and thank you so much for the kind welcome --- I must confess that I haven't been using the site as much as I had anticipated -- I guess life just gets in the way at times, however I must look it over again and re-aquaint myself how to post on diff subjects.
I had no trouble registering, but I don't seem to remember how to navigate around it. I would be grateful if you could give me a few suggestions and tell me where to start.
Summer has finally arrived here on PEI ( Atlantic Canada ) What is it like in Sydney?
Happy Sewing

Hi Margaret,
The best place or discussion to start with is up to you. Where do your interests lie? General Sewing info is excellent. The Photo Gallery is a wonderful source of inspiration. If you want to branch out a little read Creative Machine, lots of hints and advice regarding felting and free motion embroidery.

Glad to meet w/you
Hi,
firstly welcome.
secondly, I would ask you to create a new post within Quilting and Home Decor Section/Discussion topic.
You will find it in the left hand column on the main reading page. Address it to ALL members.
I am not a quilter. There are other ladies here who do quilt and may help if they see your question.
again, please post a new message regarding your 'Stand Up Poster Board and Dollie' under Equipment and Supplies.
I am in Australia and I cannot imagine what the purchase costs and shipping costs would be like for these items to be sent to you. Another member closer to your location ( where are you? Japan?, i'm guessing because of the website you added and no location is showing in your profile here.)
Please post questions in their correct category. You will receive more answers.

Hello! Welcome to the forum! It is always nice to "meet" new people here who love to sew and create!
Craft or Art Supply stores will have posterboard. Here we have Michaels and Hobby Lobby and several privately owned ones.
For dollies, I think Bed, Bath, and Beyond, Linnens and Things, Home Depot, Lowes, Target, Wallmart, and Kmart.
Good luck! I hope you find what you are looking for. Mary
