New sewing machine

poneill | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

I am planning to buy a new sewing machine.  It needs to do all the usual fabric weights (including chiffon), but I also need to have it do several layers of denim and upholstery without throwing off the timing or breaking the bushings (did that once).  Any suggestions?  —poneill

My Janome 6500 has been able to handle anything I give it, including layers of quilts and quilt bindings.

Try the Janome 6500 or 6600.  Had the 6500 and traded up to the 6600.  Only difference was the 6600 has better lighting and a few more built-in stitches.  Both will suit all your needs.  It is a no-nonsense machine.  I have sewn all types of fabric and can find no fault with it.  If you get either the 6500 or 6600, get the table for it - makes a world of difference.  Oh, forgot to mention the 6600 has a differential feed or even feed foot and mechanism for machine quilting. Haven't used this yet, as I have had my quilts long-arm quilted.

I also highly recommend the Janome 6600 . . . I've had mine for nearly two years . . . I have sewn everything from very delicate fabrics to 12 layers of Sunbrella.

So far with using my different feet to their full advantage, My 1001 Janome has sewn Denim quite well, vinyl backed=leather, screen and some tough fabrics which go into costumes. I'm sure I will come across something that won't sew. Yet, at this date everything is going smoothly.
