Thanks. I'm guessing by your screen name that you have a large fabric stash. Mine at last count was 53 large plastic boxes, taking up two walk-in closets and under my sewing table. I think I have a problem. Not too much fabric, just too little time to sew!

      1. fabricholic | | #10

I have a closet full, one cabinet full and now, I am embarrassed to say, almost the whole sewing room floor is covered with my fabric stash. I have to get a handle on it. I don't like it taking up the floor space. It makes it look messy. You are right, we just don't have enough time to sew.Marcy

Hi - me again!  I forgot to tell you - I am a FABRICHOLIC too.  Oh, it is so hard.  Just love that beautiful - quaity material.  Right now, the queen size bed in my guest room is covered with FUNKY MONKEY charms.  I am designing some quilts for my newest grandson.  (The mom loves Funky Monkey material.)  I THINK - I KNOW - Oh - I bought way TOOOO much material. Can you image organizing over 100 Funky Monkey charms covering the bed!  I hear you laughing.  Now that I have done that, I keep looking at it and telling myself this is overkill.  I think I might just make 2 cute little quilts for a brother and sister.  After spending time rearranging and rearranging the charms, I better take a picture because once I take them up to design something else - and if I change my mind again - I will never remember the order I put the first group in.  Does this sound familiar to anyone out there?  Oh, and at the same time I am designing 2 labels for quilts I made.  I use my embrodiery unit to do the labels.  I love to put a picture into a label that will match the quilt theme - lots of fun.  But, it is amazing how much time you can spend designing it on the computer.  Need I tell you that I also have cut out flannel - short bottoms (Paris design theme) to sew on my serger.  (Bought that material last summer.)  I also want to try HEIRLOOM sewing.  Hey, think I will start a new topic to discuss.(p.s. we both better stay away from the fabric store for awhile.)  I also have lots of material for projects waiting to do.  (I bet you do too.)  My addiction to fabric also keeps me on the computer.  (I ordered all the Funky Monkey material and much more over the internet.) Have a great day!

I too have a store of material or "a stash of fabric" Some years ago I promised myself not to make any new purchases of cloth until I could make it pronto. This has reduced the number of suitcases of fabric in my loft and other cubby holes around the house but there still remains a lot more to be used up. Some of this comprises the yards that I purched myself, inherited from my mother, my aunt, the next door neighbour...... because I sew I seem to fall in for lots of pieces of cloth. In the next week or so I intend to start on a two piece in Thai silk that I bought when I was there in 1990. Not vintage but getting there. It's good to know that others out there, or within the the group that comprises the Threads forum that have the same addictions as myself. In the same manner I also have fallen in for lots of knitting needles. As I never liked knitting but felt guilty about throwing them out I have a large collection. However I now have the answer I use them for propping up my pot plants. Durable and the correct size!

          2. fabricholic | | #14

Speaking of knitting needles, reminds me that I have a yarn addiction, also. I don't even knit that much. I haven't bought any in a while, but I have a whole basket full. Every time it went on sale, I had to pick out my favorite colors or textures. Did you say you were growning pot in plants and propping it up with knitting needles? LOLMarcy

Yes, I get silly when I am tired. I do think it's a great idea to prop up plants with the knitting needles. Expensive, maybe, but a good idea. Marcy

          6. fabricholic | | #22

I hope you know I am just kidding about the pot. Please write back so that I know you are not offended, or even if you are, please write back. I don't mean any dis-respect to you or anyone.Marcy

          7. Stillsewing | | #23

I'm not in the least bit offended! Surprised when I look at my pathetic pot plants which generally don't last too long. I consider that the world's drug problems would be solved if I were in charge of the production of that type of plants.I'll stick to sewing. And again I'm not in the least bit offended.Mary

What is Funky Monkey charms? New one on me. Making new designs on the computer does take up a lot of time, doesn't it. I can be designing just a monogram and it will take a while. I start playing with it and changing this or that and before I know it, a lot of time has gone by.Marcy

Hi  -  the Funky Monkey material is the design group actually called 5 Funky Monkeys by Erin Mical for MODA.  I buy a lot of my material on the internet.  You can just type in Moda material or go to your favorite material site and you should be able to find it.  I bought it from the site http://www.fatquartershop  or go to http://www.modafabrics.com   Charms are packages of precut squares.  I also have seen precut heart charms.  The heart charms you could use for appliqueing and the square cut ones are sewn to gether for quilts or also for applique.   Janice

I found them under the moda website. They're sock monkeys. Thanks for showing them to me. I think I love them, also.Marcy

Take pictures of quilt ideas? oh yes!  I do that, then e-mail my daughter with the good eye for color and ask her opinion!  Turned out to be a good thing 'cause on one quilt I did get confused, went back to the pictures and fixed my mistake!

            Becky

Hi Becky,  Yes.  And, I also keep the pictures in a special sewing album (on my 2nd. one)  I enjoy looking back at all the things I have made.  And, it is a good reference too.  Enjoy!  Janice

Hi sewmom5,  I'm new too and really enjoying the chats with other sewaholics too.  Everyone has been very friendly and helpful.  It is nice to share our sewing hobby with others who feel the same way we do about sewing.  You know what it is like to be excited about fabric, patterns etc. and those who don't sew could care less. So, happy chatting.  Janice

My worst addiction is thread.  But I also have a major "foot fetish".

      1. GranJanice | | #7

Hi - I have a great weakness for beautiful - good quality material and all kinds of threads and a weakness for collecting patterns, books and endless embrodiery designs.  Have to squeeze in the time for sewing.

    2. sewmom5 | | #9

It is nice to find kindred spirits. Non-sewers think I'm crazy for loving the sound of a sewing machine, the feel of needle and thread, and just the atmosphere of my sewing room. But I know you can all understand. What great therapy. I'm almost sane.

      1. GranJanice | | #11

Hi - Oh how well I now the feeling.  My sewing machine was getting tuned up and I was actually without it for about 20 days.  Yes, I was counting.  It made me realize how much sewing is a part of my life.  With my free time from sewing, I tried to catch up on other things.  I was making good progress.  But. now that I have my sewing machine back my sewing/guest room has my sewing stuff decorating it again.  I have to force myself to walk away and tell myself I HAVE to do this or I HAVE to do that.  Then, I end up coming back to the sewing room LATER and staying up too late.  I know I can focus better when I have more sleep.  So, say a prayer for me that I can learn to go to bed early.  (I have jury duty this Thursday and I have to be at the courthouse 8:30 a.m. - HORRORS!)  My husband is always calling from out bedroom 'GO TO BED!"   Hubby is a morning person and I am a night person.  AMAZING - we have 3 sons - grown - and 6 grandchildren.  So. somehow, we worked out our schedules together.  See - I am supposed to go to the gym now.  My computer is another time grabber.  But, what a part of our lives it has become too.  It is a constant struggle.  Oh - the woes of loving sewing.  p.s. I am quilting, trying to make things for my grandchildren and trying to get back to clothes sewing.  SEW nice to share our SEW hobby.  Have a great day!
