Newbie needs advice re applying embel…

I have a vest pattern that can be worn double breasted or with the lapels folded and buttoned back. It is reversable. I have hand embroidered four ‘lapels’ and wish to apply these.

Problem 1: this will give me four layers in each lapel. Fabric: panel: panel: fabric. Very bulky?

Problem 2: Rest of the vest is just the two layers of fabric, obviously. Very ‘floppy’ by comparison?

Problem 3: Would like to quilt the vest – but not the lapels.

Any advice much appreciated!

Sally, if I understand you right, you are using your embellished panels AND the fabric you cut out for the lapel. Just use the panel, cut it to size using the pattern and have the other panel on the reverse side.
