NEWBIE NEEDS HELP

XDanaX | Posted in General Discussion on

Hello everyone, I am very new to sewing and my mother-in-law just bought a Singer Merritt, Model#4552, from a friend and guess what? No manual…I am very new to sewing and I was wondering if anyone could help me through the process of threading the machine for the first time. Thanks very much in advance

check this site:  http://www.mrsews.com/manuals/singermenu1.html  you can order your manual through them.  I think that http://www.allbrands.com  also carries machine manuals too.

It also sounds like it is an relatively older model do you know if she sewed with it a great deal or very sporadically?  If it has been sitting for quite awhile say for more than 3 years after getting it threaded start out slowly and let the oil redistribute.  Also it should not have a oily smell to it.  That could me that the oil has gone bad or gotten really thick over time.  That would be the time to get it into the shop and have it cleaned and oiled.  Also remember if it is old enough that it does need regular oiling that if it is not oiled properly it will produce skipped stitches.  Singers especially.
