old THREADS knit bootie pattern ?

nancyknits | Posted in Knitting and Crochet on

Hi.

A friend on mine got me the best little hand knit booties that stay on the little ones feet!!  I would love to duplicate this pattern and have been knitting from a book called KNITTING FOR BABY.  There is a pattern in this book that is similar to the booties I have but not as simple.  (Now with a newborn and 2 others I’m looking for QUICK and great looking too!).  In this book the authors mention that this pattern is similar to a pattern sent in to Threads’ Letters-to-the-editor by a 95 year old woman.  Her hopes were that they would publish the pattern to keep it from disappearing forever.  I’d like to get a copy of this pattern.  Can anyone help?  (My booties that I’d like to copy have a seam at the center back that extends under the center of the sole.)

Thanks so much!

Nancy

Haven't seen it but would love to have it.  I will do a search on Threads and get back to you if it shows up.  Any idea what timeframe we're dealing with to help narrow the search? Z

    Hello Nancy

The booties are on page 10 of Tips in Threads #22. They are also in the book "Knitting Tips and Trade Secrets" put out by Taunton. I have the first printing of this book; there is a newer version available now - the pattern is bound to be in there. What a wonderful gift Christine Bourquin left us.

      Wow! Katina, thank you!

How do you suggest I find this back issue and book?  Is this a book I can get from a local library or only through Taunton?  I will do a search through my library but if you have further suggestions, that would be great.  I guess I could order a back issue from Threads but would like to see the bootie before to be sure it is the one I'm looking for.  Thanks again for your help!

        Hello Nancy

Below is a link to the book on Amazon, or perhaps you're able to check it out in a bookstore. I have the magazine and an earlier edition of the book - I imagine I'm permitted to scan it for you?

        Hope this helps.

          Hi Katina,

Thank you.  I've found the book through my library system and they will be sending it soon.  Thanks again for the information.

          Hello Pasdenom!

GREAT!  Thanks so much!  This looks like the booties I have.  I'll read through the pattern tonight!  Thanks again for your help.

I found this by googling the woman's name. After posting I read through the rest of the Google hits and found several other sites offerring the directions. You might double check to see if they agree. Let us know how these booties come out. I am always looking for baby gifts and enjoy quick projects.
