On Line Sewing Circles

jules_p | Posted in General Discussion on

Does anyone know of an on-line fashion-based sewing circle??? I haven’t sewn in a couple of years and would love to get started again. My work schedule limits my time. Local sewing clubs are not compatible with my work schedule and are a little too craft based for me- Any suggestions????

I'm not sure what you are looking for--maybe a clearer statement of what you expect of such a group? I think that you will find what you are looking for here. 99% of the discussions are about clothing/fashion.

I think I may have found what I am looking for- I found a site that does "sew alongs". A pattern or type of garment that everyone does within a certain specified time frame- (I need deadlines or it doesn't get done=) sad but true.) Does Gatherings do something similar? I saw a lot of discussion groups and individuals sharing personal projects. Did I just overlook it??

Hi Jules!  There is a site called Sewing Pattern Review.  If you go to Message Boards and scroll down you'll find a section called Sew Alongs.  If you click there you will find different types.  I've never participated in one before so I don't know how they are about deadlines, etc. but maybe this is what you are looking for.  And maybe it's the site you already found, too!

          Hi Mary,
          Isn't it sewing.patternreview.com?Marcy

I always put in without the word sewing, but the same site comes up either way I just discovered.  Most websites don't work that way, that's cool that this one does!  Mary

Oh, it sure does. Sorry, I didn't think she would get it. Will you look at my question on fitting?

I don't know enough about fitting.  Can you make her a muslin bodice first?  Seems like that would resolve some questions for you.  Sorry I couldn't help more.  Mary

That's what Meg suggested. Yes, I will do that.

Re sewing circles, I started another thread at the Quilting heading re Landscape Quilting, are you interested?   It would be interesting to have a whole group doing these and learning together as we go, it would fit all levels of quilters too.

Sure, I am clueless, though. I've just seen Nancy Zieman do it on her show.
