One last adj to make pants perfect?

sewcouture | Posted in Fitting on

I have a pants pattern that is fitting me almost perfectly. The crotch area fits beautifully in both front and back.

The only problem is a vertical fold that seems to start from my back waist about one-third in from the side seam. The question is – is it a pull or a drape?

When I pull the waistline seam up at the point of the fold, the fold goes away. However, the fold looks more like a pull to me than a drape and logic would seem to require that I lower the waist seam, not raise it. However, when I lower the waistline the fold doesn’t go away.

Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem?

Are you sure you don't mean horizontal? When you describe how this fold behaves it sounds as if it's a horizontal line.

No, it's vertical. Actually, I think I've figured it out. I noticed that the problem existed on only one side. I decided to compare my hip measurement, left and right, and my waist to floor measurement, left and right. Lo and behold, my hip is fuller and higher on my right side than on my left. Now I know what to do.Thanks for answering. I appreciate it.

it may be that you have too much width in the back pattern piece . May be when you pull it up you are matching the pants to your body better and that why the fold goes away. I would try pinning in a dart and seeing what happens . Have you got a sway back or a large difference between hip and waist measurement.
