Ott lighting

blondielou | Posted in General Discussion on

I bought two of these Ott light lamps, both with a magnifier, from HSN.  About 5 or 6 months afterwards (and I had not been sewing and they both were in the sewing room), when I went to press something I found one of them did not work!  Probably due to one of the times that I was over in that area of the house and the lamp fell over as the lamp is so top heavy!  I did try to fix it by trying a new light bulb, different outlet, put in the bulb that was in the working lamp….nothing worked.

I can’t say I am thrilled wth those floor lamps, esp at $150….  Now my vision is awful and I am sewing more and I need a floor lamp behind where I do most of my sitting in my comfy recliner and I have no idea what to get….  I order through Ebay, JoAnn catalogs, QVC and HSN and other places much more than I drive anywhere as I suffer from daily chronic headaches and don’t want to spend my limited daily time that sometimes I feel decent out shopping under fluorscent light that causes my migranes!

I did see one of the Ott lights that has a clip that you use for your sewing instructions I thought I’d really like…..and this one is prettier and would fit in my living room.

Ideas, suggestions, help???!!!???

Have you tried just getting full spectrum light bulbs? They are readily available and go right into your regular lamps.

I have been pleased with the Ott-Lite I ordered, and their service. Here's their home page, as well as a FAQ and answer you've already tried in case others might have a similar problem. If it were me, I'd definitely contact Customer Service if I couldn't get it to work.

My lamp is not working correctly, how can I troubleshoot the problem?

    Please try the following:

    1) Make sure the bulb is inserted into the socket properly. When inserting the bulb you will hear at least 2 clicks.

    2) After you hear the second click and the lamp still does not work, please try a different outlet.

    3) If the above actions do not fix the problem, please contact customer service at 1-800-842-8848 x 500 or e-mail at [email protected].

Please note: In the event you need to return your OTT-LITE lamp, an OTT-LITE customer service representative will give you a return merchandise authorization number (RMA #) and the return address. This RMA # is required for all returns to OTT-LITE Technology.

You might watch for JoAnn's 40% off coupon.  I just got a floor lamp that I will be taking in my 5th wheel when we travel.  They also have internet specials every so often.  Can't do without either an Ott or full specturm. Have one of each.  Good luck.

      Thanks everyone!

I also need to get my eyes checked!  That time again and then some!  I have chronic headaches and migraines so on one hand I have trouble with light yet I need light to sew so it is hard for me.  I really need very directed light I think......  When I worked in an office and had fluorscent overhead light I unscrewed the lightbulbs and put small lamps on my desk!!!  That only worked when I didn't have nearby neighbors!

I had already thrown the offending lamp out....  I had tried the lamp various ways and waited for it to come on.  I tried a different bulb ....even one that worked in another exact lamp that did work.....I was putting in and out a bulb in the lamp that was working and then tried to do the same with the offending lamp that wasn't and it never worked.

I still have the one that is exactly the same and it continues to work.

I have another Ott lamp that is a table lamp that is years older and it continues to work .....so I am very familiar with Ott lamps and have had them for 7 or 8 years now I think......
