The pants pattern I’m using doesn’t have pockets and I would like to add them. I’m looking for a simple pocket pattern and detailed instructions to sew them into a pair of capri pants. Thanks for your help!

You will need side seams in your Capri pattern. If your side seam is curved, make the pocket's long straight edge curved like your Capri's side seam.
Draw yourself a teardrop shape like the one in the attachment. (mine is 12.5 inches long and 6 inches wide at the line marked 6"; sorry, its drawn in 2 pieces because of my scanners limitations!)
cut 4 pocket pieces.
Sew one pocket piece to each side seam (right sides together) but using only 3/8 inch of the side seam allowance.
Now sew the side seam, but leave about 6 inches unstitched above the mark. (so you will sew a little bit at the top, leave some open for the opening of the pocket, then finish the side seam.
Now sew the outer edge of the pocket together, starting at the side seam and ending at the side seam.
Hope this helps,
Becky
PS how high or low in the side seam you place your pocket is a matter of personal preference, just make sure you sew them all at the same level!
