pattern alteration

boghill | Posted in Fitting on

Don’t know if this counts as a fitting or pattern issue.  My family has been blessed(?) with large busts, short waists and small frames.  My daughter wears a size 12 pattern but needs an adjustment for a G or I cup.  When i do the slash to the armhole notch and spread, etc alterations, it distorts the armhole so much that the sleeve binds.  any suggestions on how to do this alteration with out the distortion.  The shoulders and neckline and back fit super, so a larger size is not an option. As you can see from the picture, there is a lot of cutting and moving on this pattern piece!   I have bought a new pattern for the second attempt.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sandra Betzina's book  "Fast Fit - Easy Pattern Alterations for Every Figure" has  instructions on how to do that without changing the size of the armhole.  You might try to get this book from your library (as I do) or it is well worth buying.

Thanks for the info. I always like a reason (excuse) to buy a new sewing book.  It's almost as much fun as buying new gadgets or fabrics!
