Pattern Drafting Software?

SpinninJenny | Posted in General Discussion on

This is my first posting to this site, so bare with me if I make a mistake!

I’m looking for pattern drafting software, and so far my searches are fruitless. Does anyone use a particular software andwhat about the cost and ease of use? I’m interested in hearing from anyone. I’d like your opinions, too. Right now I’m using a tablet, rulers and a pencil. I know it exists, but I don’t know where to find it.

Thanks,

Jennifer in GA

    Jennifer,

A good site with demos that you can download and try out pattern drafting software is http://www.wildginger.com.  I have several of their programs and am mostly satisfied.  There is a huge amount of support available and an online forum and also yahoo chat support group.  You won't be disappointed.

    Hi Jenny

I am just brand new to this site, but this subject is my new best friend.  I have had pattern designing software for several years now, and recently have retired enough to learn it thoroughly.  I have DressShop by Livingsoft Northwest. and I also have My Pattern Designer by MOD,LLC. which is similar but different.  The owners of MPD used to work for Livingsoft.  I like the MPD the best because the shaping of the patterns is more natural in some instances.  But don't let that opinion scare you.  They are both great programs.  They both rely on personal measurements, but also you can select sizing based on what you buy off the rack, then you can tweak those measurements to suit your shape.  You can download a near working demo of each program, (just can't print or save), so  you "review" the program pretty well.

Thanks to both of you! I'm investigating the software you mentioned and will try the demo this week.

I knew I could rely on this site for an answer.

    Keep on stitchin'
