The bride wants lace with a delicate over-all pattern and a scalloped border in a dress with an a-line skirt (curved hem) and rounded train. I’ve never worked with lace on this scale before – any suggestions for fitting the curved hem to the straight scalloped edge? I’ve read that heavily patterned lace can be cut and “overlayed,” but that will not work here. Any good books or websites on working with lace?
Thanks, Robert

Susan Khalje'd Bridal Couture book tells how to sew with lace. http://www.susankhalje.com/books.html Basicly, you cut the scalloped border off the lace fabric, and stitch it onto the hem after the hem length is finished. You will need to piece and shape the border to fit around the curve of the hem and train. I use a free-motion embrodery/darning foot to attach the lace to the hem. Then trim the lace under the scallops if you want. The Singer Reference Library book Special Ocasion Sewing is also a good reference book with lots of clear photos. http://www.amazon.com/Sewing-Special-Occasions-Evening-Reference/dp/0865732876
