Pattern wanted

rarezoo | Posted in Patterns on

I’m hoping to find something similar to this lovely vintage pattern (Butterick 7130): http://www.dressaday.com/2006/06/it-wasnt-patterns-fault-really.html

Does anyone know the name of that neckline / bust treatment, so I will know what to search for?

I had a feeling that the knowledgeable folks on this forum might know where to steer me. Thank you in advance!

I would describe it as "kimono sleeved with raised neckline; empire waist with gathers over bust."  If there is a different name I've never heard it.  (The part under the bust might have been described as a waist-cincher insert).

That raised neckline was quite popular during the 40s and 50s so you may want to check other vintage patterns for descriptions.

Wouldn't that be a modified dolman sleeve?

what size do you need? I may have that in my basement.

Wow!  What else do you have down there?

Just kidding!  It's not like I don't have a bunch of patterns, too!  Just not really cool vintage ones!

Thanks Jean M and Ralphetta!Maybe I should just keep an eye out until I find a copy for 36" bust. I was unrealistically hoping there might be a re-issue, or something similar that's contemporary. (I'm used to instant gratification.)And Ralphetta, how generous! Ahem - 36" bust, for anyone wishing to give me undeserved gifts!

I have unopened toddler patterns..my toddler is over 40.It's genetic, but not as bad as my Mother's was. Just the other day I was working with mineral spirits and strong stuff. I ran to the basement and located the package of disposable gloves for use with TOXIC WASTE, that had been in her basement!

I think I have a pattern similar to that in my stash....I'll look tomorrow and see...If I do, I'll see how they describe it.

This patternmaker has what appears to be a reworked copy of that design.

Thanks everyone! This is very helpful...Pasdenom, that looks pretty darn close. Definitely a more - ahem - realistic waistline for me.

Take a look at McCalls 5662, view D.  It's a tunic top but it has that insert under the gathered bustline.  If it doesn't reach your waist it could be lengthened, as could the hem.  With a bit of pattern altering you could get pretty close to your dress.  Good luck.
