Pfaff Machine

proegge | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

Does anyone know anything about a Pfaff 1197?  A friend of my best friend is offering one to me pretty cheaply.  It looks like a VERY basic machine, but she is telling me that it will embroider.  I have looked on the internet but haven’t been able to find much info about it.  I would appreciate any input on this machine!

Thank you
paula

Based on what little I know about the numbers, this is a fairly "older" machine? Does your friend mean stitches that make designs when she says embroidery? I got mine some years back just before the big embroidery boom, and was told it did embroidery. It did, but it was the tiny little programmed stitches which was fine with me. I thought the first embroidery machines began with the 7500 and higher numbers. Can some correct me if I'm wrong? That being said, if this machine has the dual feed, and I am betting it does, grab it. That is a fabulous asset to any machine, eliminating the need for a bulky walking foot attachment. For many years Pfaff was the only manufacturer with the dual feed. solo

Paula,You might consider contacting a Pfaff dealer or checking out http://www.patternreview.com for a review. If the model numbers are any indication, I have a 1222E from 1981 and I use this as a primary machine. It's a fantastic machine and can't be beat.

I was kind of thinking this might be a good 'workhorse' machine.  I would like to have one that I can use on heavy duty items like denim and upholstery. Does your 1222 do that?

I will check out pattern review as well.

      Thanks!Paula

Yes, I've stitched denim (made jackets, repaired many a pair of jeans), sewn silk blouses, pieced and machine-quilted quilts, wool garments... the 1222E has done it all!(Right now I'm trying to convince my son to paint some flames on the sewing machine - similar to the flames on hot-rods!)

I own 2 pfaff machines (Tiptronic 1171 (sewing only) and 2124 (sewing/embroidery)  They are both work horses and I have sewn everything on them.  I've made over 2,000 garments with that Tiptronic!!!!!    I just bought the 2124 2 years ago and it is also a very strong and sturdy machine.

I, too, own a Pfaff tiptronic 1171 and love it, love it!!!  I don't think I've made 2,000 garments with it but would run a close second to you!

I bought mine in 1987 and stopped using it about 2 years ago when I bought the 2124.  I can't wait to see the new top of the line model they have been talking about.  I've been watching it on the pfaff website.

The Pfaff 1197 doesn't have the IDT (Identical Dual Transport). If you are interested, you can look at a free online Pfaff 1197 manual. To turn the pages, please click on the arrows << >> below the manual.
