Picot type edging

I am trying to figure out how to duplicate the picot type trim/edging seen on RTW (especially hems and cuffs). I have a Viking 1+. Any suggestions? TIA. Susan

Picot edges are fast and easy on lightweight knits. Fold and press a 3/8" hem allowance, then use a blind-stitch so that the straight stitches are on the fabric side and the zig-zag is on the fold side (if you can not mirror image the blind stitch on your machine, you may have to sew with the fabric on the right side of your needle). Then trim the excess part of the hem allowance from the wrong side, close to the stitching line.

The Singer Sewing Reference book called "Sewing Lingerie" gives an excellent description with photos if you need more information.

*Susan, did you mean the crochet type edging (which is barely sewn to the edge)? I've sewn some samples in the past and the more successful ones used a narrow satin scallop stitched 'in the air' with a slightly thicher weight thread in the bobbin (like wt 30 cotton); stitching onto stablizer didn't work out so well for me - it *did* work, but I just didn't look the look of it. I did have to experiment a lot when I tried to do it and I kept LOTS of notes on threads, tension, stitch lenghts & widths, etc... My machine back then was prehistoric, so you should have no problem with such a nice one as yours.Veronik
