I have a pair of Fiskars pinking shears (a gift from my daughter) I think they were the most expensive they make, but they don’t cut all that well. Is there any way to sharpen them?

I had my pinking shears sharpened recently by the man who sharpens scissors at the local fabric store.
Before you get them sharpened, give them a good cleaning with a soft rag--just wipe off any built-up lint in the blade or joints. Sometimes this loosens up the shears and enables them to cut more cleanly.

Dear Carol, thanks for the suggestion about the pinking shears. I did try that, with no success. Since they had a "lifetime" guarantee, I took them back where I pourchased them, and was given credit for another pair, which I hope will work better. They do at first try.
I read a review on another site about a sewer using tin foil to sharpen her pinking shears. She took about 4 or 5 layers and continuously cut through the foil. She said it worked just fine. She had taken another pair to someone who sharpened scissors and the shears were destroyed by the sharpener.
I decided to use this method on my favorate manicure scissors (30 years old and small blade) - it worked great.
Martha Stewart suggests cutting through very fine sand paper as another way of sharpening scissors.
