Years ago I read an article about tailoring gabardine in which the author talked about washing wool gabardine. I assume she must have washed the wool in cold water, because hot water would have felted the fabric.
Has anyone done this?
Thanks,
Barbara

I machine wash all my wool fabric on the delicate cycle using cold water. Gabardine washes well. If I don't let the wash spin the full time on both wash and rinse, most of my wool skirts don't need to be ironed.

Thanks for the info.I hate dry cleaning and now I can make washable gabardine clothing.Barbara
I have done the same as Fiberfan to wool gab.
I have been taught an easier way. I dampen a sheet, (really damp), and then i spread the wool on the damp sheet , and roll it up, let it set overnight. Unroll the next day, and press dry. Works great.
Is this to prewash the fabric only? Once tou have made the garment do you wash the way the others have discribed?

I only do this too preshrink the wool. I have it dry cleaned after that. Usually I line what ever i am making in wool. so dry cleaning is the only option.
