problem with Vogue bag pattern

ElenaYDesigns | Posted in Patterns on

I started making what should have been a very simple sling bag from Vogue pattern V8466 Bag A. When I got to the instructions for doing the strap I got completely confused. Is it old age, a pattern mistake or just confusing directions?????? I need help!!!!

Hi Ellen!I'm not familiar with that pattern, but it doesn't look that complex, so I vote for "confusing directions"! (Try turning the directions sheet upside down to look at the pictures - change of perspective and all that) Hope you've had more success with it since Friday!Kharmin

I vote with KharminJ: confusing directions.  Somehow, Vogue pattern instructions always manage to make even the simplest techniques seem complex and indecipherable to me--and the line drawings rarely resemble anything that could be assembled from the pattern pieces in the same packet.  After many tearful challenges, I stopped using them altogether.

If you think you have an idea about how the handle can work, why not try it with the relevant pattern pieces cut from a cheaper fabric?  Bags are items that can be creatively altered in many ways and still be successful (or even more so, when you customize it to your needs and preferences).  It may work better than the original design, and if nothing else, will be unique to you.

Thanks for your input. I too am getting very jaded with Vogue patterns. i do make many of my own patterns, usually do not use commercial patterns, especially for bags. Guess I will stick with my own from now on.
