   Darlene, the thread at Wal-Mart is usualy of 2 kinds - Coatsd & Clarks and the cheap barrel stuff. The C&C is a good all around sewing thread, I use it all the time. If you need better selection, you need to deal with a tailoring supply house. The one I deal with is Atlanta Thread and Tailoring Supply, At, GA. Call 800 operator for #. Also, there is Oregon Tailoring Supply. I have seen them advertise in the back pages classified in Threads and elsewhere. When you contact them about ordering, be sure to ask them for a color chart for their thread lines or you will be lost in matching colors. Most good houses like this carry many types of threads for many purposes. Most will send you a comprehensive catalog for free or at modest charge. Be sure to ask. Good luck, Bill

   *Well, now you know where to look for thread, but do you know what to look for? My all time favorite thread is Gutermaan. Since they sponsor Nancy's Zieman's sewing show, maybe they sell it at Nancy's Notions online.

   *There is also a very good German brand thread called "Ackermann". I know Gütermann is well known, but Ackermann-Göggingen, and Amann also produce excellent products. Japanese Tire, Daruma and SchappeSpun are first rate. Tire and Daruma for silk threads which are unbelievably fine and smooth. The usual: No affiliations. Just a satisfied sewer.
