Ready Made Garment Alterations

Richlady | Posted in Talk With Us on

I am a big woman but I have lost weight.  I started at size 24 and I am down to 18-20.  My problem is I can not buy new clothes,  I have brand new garments I can not wear because they are too large.  I want to know how to custom fit these garments to by size now. I have a three piece- blazer, skirt and pants (size 24), other pieces blazer shirt(size 22).  I really love these pieces and do not want to get rid of them. Oh! they are lined. Thanks for any help you can give.

Altering from size 24 to an 18/20, especially with blazers (lined or unlined) is a job for experts, and one that I wouldn't touch. There's too much to change and it is doubtful if the garment could be recut into the smaller size. Same goes for the pants. If the shirt shoulders fit and the armscyes are not too deep, the sides can be taken in and darts added. The good news now: skirts in a large size and simple style are quite easily sized down. Take it apart and recut it if simply removing the waistband and taking in the side seams doesn't work for you.
