I finally found a pants pattern that fits in the waist, butt & crotch and needs NO changes! However, the legs are just too wide. I have reduced the width by about .25″ on the inside seam of both the front and back but its still not enough. My question is, when you reduce the width, does it matter if you take the excess away from the inner seam or the outer seam? I don’t want to take much more off but since I took some from the inner should I now try to taper the outer? Does it matter?
Thanks,
Blingy

Yes, usually it matters. I've done it many times.
The articles I've read, and followed, say that you should reduce the same amount from both sides at the hemline. You start with the same amount at the hem but it will not look identical on each side. If you put a mark on each side and then angle your yardstick upward, you'll see that one tapers much more sharply than the other. It may seem strange, but if you do that, the front and back crease will not change...the grain will remain straight and the pants will hang correctly.
Thanks, yes, this makes sense, I have noticed the taper is different for front and back so starting at the hem makes sense. Thank you!
You might want to try pinning a small pleat where the hem begins before you do anything else. Since it's only pinned, you can try several variations before you cut.
