removing blue chalk

JackieF | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

I marked buttonhole placement lines in the front band of a shirt with a chalk wheeel containg blue chalk, not giving a thought to whether it would come off. Well I couldn’t brush it off with a dry towel, so I dabbed with a damp towel and it still didn’t come off. I then put it in the washing machine and dryer and it still shows! I’m ANNOYED. This is what they sell the stuff for…. Any ideas on how to get it off?

Unfortunately, sending it through the dryer might have "set" the color, but here is what I would try:

    1. Rubbing alcohol vigorously applied with a q-tip. Let dry naturally. No heat.

    2. Spot remover like "Energine," also brushed on with a q-tip. Let air-dry.

    3. Call manufacturer of chalk and ask for advice.

    Good luck.

*I had a similar experience with one of those "wash out" blue pencils. I was told to try one of the Carbona liquids. they have different bottles for inks, crayons, blood, grass, grease, etc... Each bottle is only a few dollars so I have started a collection. As for the blue pencil....I never got to try the Carbona on it b/c I had to "fess up" when my client came to pick it up! Hopefully it came out in the wash for her. It was a bra so at least it wasn't unuseable.
