Repairing pants

DeerCreekEl | Posted in Fitting on

My son has a 52″ waist and very large thighs.  Two pair of dress pants he purchased ripped out in the left rear, at the crease between buttocks and thigh.  I could just repair them, but sense that this is a fit issue.  Should I insert a gusset th the crotch, enlarge the pant leg, or something else?  I am an intermediate sewer but not really up on fitting.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

I would say yes to inserting some additional fabric into this area as it would help with the problem of stress on fabric. This link has information on how to add a gusset, measuring to calculate amount required.
