rib-knit binding troubles

Susie_R. | Posted in The Archives on

I’m making a tank top from cotton rib-knit.(I thought it would be a quick project.) I used the same fabric to bind the edges and make straps. It came out all stretched out, forming a wide ruffled shelf around the chest-amusing but unwearable. HELP! If I spend a few more hours unstitching it what can I do to correct it?

After you carefully remove the previous binding, cut the new piece with the rib going up and down. Fuse lightweight interfacing, meant for knits to the new pneck binding. Before you cut the interfacing, try and stretch the interfacing up and down and across, cut it in the direction of LEAST STRETCH. get out the pattern pieces for the original front and back pattern pieces and see if it was stretched out in sewing on the binding and subsequent removal. may have to wet necklines and let airdry flat to see if it will return to previous shape. If it doesn't, you have a new cleaning rag. If you can reduce the pressure foot tension on your sewing machine( not possible on alot of machines) If you have aPfaff with a swing down even feed foot disengage it. Sometimes, without the proper equiptment it is impossible to make even a simple project.
