Ribbon Flowers on Buckram Base Cone

momcat50 | Posted in General Sewing Info on

Sometime this past summer I saw a craft program that explained how to make ribbon flowers on a small cone sewn from a circle of buckram. It involved creating the little cone, and stitching folding and stitching again (and folding again) to get a nice looking stable flower suitable for hats etc. Try as I might I cannot duplicate it. Does anyone out there know of a book that may show how to create thiese flowers?

Thanks!

Was this a Carol Duvall episode on HGTV with Helen Gibbs (I hope I got that name right). If so you can search for it on the HGTV website or ask for help finding it on their boards.

Thank you for your response. Two of you came up with the same name - Helen Gibbs and according to another sewer who responded, Helen Gibbs has a book called "The Secre ot Fashioning Ribbon Flowers". I will try the search on HGTV, though, now that I am fairly certain of the name.

      Thanks!

I believe this could be found in a book by Helen Gibbs, "The Secret of Fashioning Ribbon Flowers". While I won't swear to it, I think I experimented with this technique after seeing her on Carol Duvalls show as well. I have done a considerable amount of ribbon embroidery myself, romanced by the gorgeous ribbons. ( I wrote down the name of the book in the back of one of my other favorite ribbon references, "An Encyclopedia of Ribbon Embroidery Flowers" by Deanna Hall West. Another great source is Ribbon Embroidery by Yukiko Ogura. While these two don't address your question, they are terrific references... in case you are looking...) Just for fun, here's a photo of one of my favorite projects: "My Garden Vest"

Thank you very much for the resources on ribbon flowers. I will start searching for copies to look at.

Your vest is gorgeous. Wonderfully creative. Thank you for sharing the photo!

I think that Threads has an article on this in a back issue from a couple of years ago.
