Some years ago I saw a great idea for making very simple bath robes from towels. Recently I had a chance to get some terrific towels–they are very large but not as big as beach towels. The pattern I remember was based on the kimono shape.
Any ideas?

This is for a pullover but it could easily be adapted to an open front with a tie belt.
I did that out of old towels and didn't use a pattern. I used basic rectangles and all right angles to construct the back, front and sleeves. For the front, I split the towel down the middle lengthwise and put the cut edges in the seams and the selvages at the front opening. After I constructed the body, I cut a rounded neck and added a peaked hood.
I sewed it all on a Singer Featherweight (straight stitch only) then did a big blanket stitch over all the seams with contrasting thread. It was worn seams out with a cord belt. My daughter wore it at the pool and after baths for years, then it went to my nephew. Last time I saw it, my niece was wearing it. It's about fifteen years old now. Maybe it's time I made some or my sons!
Hi...I was just looking at Newark Dressmaker Supply's catalog and saw a pattern for making a hooded bath coverup. It was called Animal Wrappers II. The pattern had tissue plans for a ladybug, bear, rabbit etc. They wanted about $7.00 for it.

I think I'm going to make one for my nephew who is about 14 months. It would be nice for the swimming pool.
