i have a Bernette 234 and i am trying to do a rolled hem. I never seem to get the same hem that is see on store bought items. I have tried wooly nylon in the lower looper, but it still does not look right. Right now i am working with a silk like material. Any tips?

    Hi!

I assume you are attempting to make a 3-thread rolled hem. Could you tell me what exactly is the problem with the appearance of the hem? It could be that you need to roll more or less into the hem, adjust tensions, feed, stitch length, etc....

*Also tell us what fabric you're working on. It might be that the wooly nylon is aggravating the problem. It is often recommended for rolled hems, but not in every case.

        * i too have been having some problems with rolled serger hems-- is it a common occurence on a hem cut slightly on the bias that the "pokey-outies" happen? i've tried every adjustment i can think of ---works on some fabrics but not others---is it just dependent on the fabric type?

*sorry it took me so long, but Xmas and all. The stitches look like they are skipping, and little eyelashes. I am sewing on a silk material. Yes a three thread rolled hem, using wooly nylon in looper

*Hi, Folks,Usually skipped stitches mean a problem with the needle but on the serger it could also mean the thread is catching somewhere along its path. Make sure the machine is free of lint and properly oiled as well. Change needle, rethread, make sure that the thread is feeding smoothly off the spools. Does it happen if you "free" a bunch of thread off the spool first, before it goes into the tension disks? I have found it hard to make a rolled hem on bias fabrics but if you try increasing cutting width that may help. Or, you could press in a 1/4" fold, then roll over that. Good luck!

*This is just my personal opinion, but I have a334D older Bernette (Bernina) serger and a newerEclipse (Babylock) serger. The 334D does a lovelyrolled hem with tight stitches and no "pokies"; theEclipse rolled hem is ok but not as tightly stitched as the 334D, and I have adjusted and adjusted to tryto make it do as well!Good luck!
