Hi everybody,
I am needing to repair two raincoats and I wondered if anyone has any experience with any sealing products to keep the mending from leaking.
I seem to remember possibly a Threads article about making your own raincoat but I am not sure if I remember correctly.
Thanks,

Threads #46?
You can find seam sealant ( say it 5 times fast!) at camping supply stores or order it from REI. It's like the old airplane glue or Duco cement. I can't remember if it comes with an applicator brush--if so, it's crude/useless. Get a good small bristle (oil painting) brush. With the right brush and a little patience, you'll be fine.
There is also a seam sealing tape which you apply with an iron. I think we purchased it from Seattle Fabrics.
this depends on the fabric the coat is made of, different fabrics with different waterproof coatings require different sealants.Silicone coated fabrics must use a silicone based sealant. urethane coated fabrics require something else. Gortex type fabrics can be taped.how is the coat sealed at this point?
Well... one is fabric with a coating on the back - this one I decided that I am just going to spray down with a spray repellant its not meant to be rain proof just resistant. The other is more important. The tag says the shell is made out of nylon, but there is no other information about the coating on the inside of the fabric.
The coated stuff is probably a urathane coating. But it could be something else. The other is likely plain nylon. A very tight weave will make it water resistant. And, quite frakly a well sewn ( felled) seam will keep most water out. The degree of waterproofness matters in what the coat is being used for
