Seam allowances on downloaded patterns

cycler1729 | Posted in General Discussion on

When you print out a pattern there is no seamline marked but it says 3/8″ seam allowance.

Is that inside the cut line or do you need to add 3/8″ to the piece?  It has to be inside the cut line – right?

Thanks!

I would think if the pattern says "3/8" seam allowance" that it is already on the pattern. It's always best to measure the pattern against your body measurements (if it is a garment), so there will be no doubt. Just because the 3/8 is there, that doesn't mean you can't make it 1/2", 1" or any width you like. What site was this pattern on? Designers do differ.

It's from the Wild Things! accessories free downloaded program.  There was nothing in the instructions about Seam allowances.

I have made the slippers from Wild Things, and they have the seam allowances on them. Actually, 3/8" would not have made much of a difference anyway. It's a great free site, isn't it?

Thanks!  I just wanted to be sure before cutting the fabric.

          Yes, it is great!
